The Donlins

Had my first ever very-early-morning family shoot yesterday with some lovely friends of mine at Hyde Park. We got the timing just right and there was this lovely pale golden morning light coming through the trees and setting off all of the beautiful autumn colours. I was thrilled with how they came out, hardly needed any post processing. Who needs editing when photographing such lovely subjects in such a beautiful place.

The Wards

Today I had the pleasure of photographing three lovely siblings, one partner and a gorgeous little two year old girl. It was such an easy going shoot and little Jasmine was so well behaved and charming! Here a a few shots from the session...

The Mcinerneys

Eeeeee so excited, still buzzing after an amazing portrait session with an amazing family. My first ever! The new lens arrived a few hours before, the light was absolutely stunning, the subjects and location were totally beautiful so everything fell into place  :)

Here are a few snippets....

My newest little toy

Not so patiently waiting for this little gem to arrive next week...

Isn't it pretty ?

I can't believe I've been putting up with my very average kit lenses for so long. This is a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 which is going to be amazing for my portraits. Can't wait to try it out, am going to ring and pester them on Monday to make sure they dispatch it as quickly as humanly possible, if they haven't already :) I have a beautiful little family to shoot on Thursday and I would so love it to be here in time!

Hopefully back soon with some 50mm goodness to share...

Location Location Location

Have been scouting around this week for some perfect shoot locations. Perth provides the most beautiful scenery any photographer could ever desire, plus a sunshine hour count absolutely through the roof. I can't remember the last day we had a drop of rain, it's been months. All this means that the evenings are just magic. Being on the west coast means we get glorious sunsets over the water and totally magic light in the few hours leading up to it.

I am pleased to say none of the following images have been edited more than the slightest tweak in sharpening and contrast. I set my white balance to a super warm lovely earthy colour and my ISO nice and low. I love having that warm quality to my photographs

Fin and I went to Cottesloe beach today and he had great fun running around the tea house and playing on the boat ramp

Went to rinse off Fin's feet afterwards and I couldn't resist a couple of shots of him having a cheeky drink out of the tap much to the amusement of onlookers...

Progression

Well I am going to be quite the busy lady very soon(as if I'm not already busy as it is with a very energetic toddler!) I have my first shoot scheduled for the 14th of April and basically am run off my feet right through until June. In June I have my first proper 'fashionshoot' for a gorgeous supplier of kiddies clothing and accessories called MillaRuby Designs. Extremely excited and totally can't wait for that :)

Have been getting in a heap of reading at night and feel my skills and knowledge of using manual settings are growing. I think it would be easy to get complacent and use post processing to achieve the light and look I am after but I want to get as much as I can 'in camera'. I am also constantly shooting in RAW now because it means the quality isn't reduced when editing. See I am learning something!!!

I have been trying to think of some relatively original props to use in my upcoming family sessions. Had some fun playing with some brightly coloured feathers with Fin the other day, thought the effect was kinda cool

Today I spent the morning with some lovely friends, one of them brought along their brand new little baby. She is so precious, so of course I took the opportunity to take a snap or two. Here is my fave...

Practise makes perfect

All of a sudden feeling overwhelmed at how much there is to learn. Have decided I will spend this entire year clocking up some experience and doing as many free shoots as I can. My first is in just under two weeks and I want to have a couple of new lenses and perhaps even a speedlight by then. I have a few of newborn sessions to do and I know how important it will be to replicate natural light indoors with a decent flash. Could get pricey! Totally worth it though and my bday is coming up after all :) I have a lot to get through and I already spend most of my spare time taking on photography, could take some late nights on photoshop I am thinking!

Fin and I went to the beach today and I spent the entire time using manual settings, yay me! The results were pleasing...

I also got this cheeky little shot of Fin eating his baked beans for lunch, I love this cheesy grin he pulls

Until next time,

Starting out

Welcome to my photography blog!

Have just scheduled in my first three proper shoots(yeeee so excited)so hope to be able to share my journey into what I hope becomes professionalism. My focus right now remains on infant/children and family portraiture but one day would love to branch out further. Since having my son I have been drawn into the world of DSLR and post processing, I am so passionate about the art of capturing gorgeous memories in a natural environment.
